SCCM 2012 R2 PART 4 – INSTALLING WSUS FOR SYSTEMS CENTER CONFIGURATIONS MANAGER 2012 R2

In this part, we will install WSUS for SCCM 2012 R2. WSUS stands for Windows Server Update Services, which is a Microsoft product for automatic distribution and deployment of system patches and updates to Windows systems. The WUA scans the entire network to see which server needs which patches and it will display what needs to be updated. SCCM 2012 R2 requires x64 version of WSUS for it to work. Please download it here:
Let’s begin to install WSUS. On the SCCM server, open Server Manager.
Click Add roles and features. Choose Role-based or feature-based installation.
Choose local server (SCCM)
Choose Windows Server Update Services
Leave the Features as default.
Click Next.
Uncheck WID Database and checkmark on WSUS Services and Database.
Specify the path for storing updates and license terms. During the scheduled update periods, SCCM will check this directory for update items and license terms. Failure to locate this folder will cause unsuccessful installation of updates.
Click Next. Since the Database server is local, enter the Database server name as SCCM.DALARIS.LOCAL.
Click Check Connection. Make sure it says successfully connected to server.
Choose to restart the destination server if required. Click Install.
When the installation is done, click Close. Please do not click on Launch Post Installation Tasks. Please only use SCCM to configure, authorize, and deploy updates. Using WSUS to do so will negatively affect the server configurations. This is something we should keep in mind.
Launch SQL Server Management Studio to verify there is a database called SUSDB in it.
