How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch


Update your device wirelessly (available in iOS 5 and later)

  1. Ensure your device is connected to a power source. To avoid potential data costs connect your device to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. Go to Settings > General > Software Update. iOS will automatically check for available updates.
  3. If an update is available* you can tap Download to download the update.
  4. After the download has completed tap Install to update your iOS.
  5. If you leave the update to download in the background, once the download has finished you will receive a notification saying an update is available for your device. Tapping Details will take you to Settings > General > Software Update. Tap Install Now to install the iOS update. If you decide to leave the installation for later Settings will display notification badge until the update has been installed.
  6. * Some iOS updates may not available as over-the-air updates. VPN or proxy connections may prevent your device from contacting the iOS update servers.

Tips for updating your iOS device

  • Ensure that your device is backed up to iCloud or back up with iTunes before updating. 
  • Unable to update, not enough available storage
When updating wirelessly, your iOS device needs enough available space to download and install the update. If "Download and Install" is grayed out or you see the message "This update requires at least x.x GB of available storage", use one of the following options to update:
  • Use iTunes to download and install the update instead
or
  • Remove content you no longer need from your device, including:
    • Movies or TV shows from the Videos app. On iPhone and iPod touch, use the "swipe to delete" gesture. On iPad, either tap Edit or tap and hold on a video, and then tap "x" to delete.
    • Apps you no longer use. Tap and hold until they jiggle, and then tap the "x" to delete.
    • Photos or videos you've taken with the camera. To save your content, you can transfer photos and videos from your device to a computer.

iPhone Setting up Exchange ActiveSync



Follow these steps to setup your Exchange ActiveSync account your iOS device:
  1. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Microsoft Exchange.
  2. Enter the information in the fields below, then hit Next:

  3. Your iOS device will now try to locate your Exchange Server. If necessary, you will need to enter your front-end Exchange Server's complete address in the Server field.

  4. Choose which content you would like to synchronize: Mail, Contacts, and Calendars. Tap Save when finished.

 Note: To modify your exchange settings, Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, select your Exchange account, and tap Account Info.

11. If you wish to prevent integration of text
messaging with your Exchange e-mail,
uncheck “Sync SMS”

13. Name account and click
“Done”

with JMU’s Exchange server.

Windows 7 PPTP VPN Setup

Step-by-step through the creation process of a PPTP connection.
Open Network Connections
First, Open Network and Sharing Center from Control Panel. Then choose Set up a new connection or network.

In the next window, choose  Connect to a workplace.

In the next window, choose Use my Internet Connection (VPN).

Type in the name or the IP address of a HideIpVPN server. You have to check the email you have received when you have paid for the HideIpVPN account. You will find there the available servers.

Then enter HideIpVPN as the name the connection in the destination name box (you can name it as you want). Then click Next.
In the next window, enter your user name and password for the VPN access. And click Create.

You’re all set if you see the next window as below.
You should see this screen next. Click the “Close” button to return to the “Network and Internet” screen.

In the Connect to a network screen, you should see the HideIpVPN connection that you have just set up.

Right–click on the VPN connection document, and choose Properties from the menu.

In the VPN Properties select tab “Security”:
1) click on the Type of VPN – “Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)”
2) click on the Data encryption – “Optional encryption (connect even if no encryption)
3) select Allow these protocols and tick as shown in the following picture

Next select tab “Networking”: put the ticks as shown in the following picture and click OK.

The connection is now ready to use. In order to connect/disconnect to VPN.com right click on the connection icon (viewable at Change adapter settings) and select connect/disconnect.
Disconnect From VPN
To disconnect from a VPN connection, right-click the icon for the connection, and then click “Disconnect”.
